Ukraine and Azerbaijan deepen cooperation in environmental protection
On the sidelines of the COP29, Svitlana Grynchuk, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, and Mukhtar Babayev, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.
‘The Memorandum we have signed is a logical continuation and scaling up of the initiatives that were laid down before the COP29. Our countries have extensive experience of cooperation in the process of preparing for it. We will deepen our cooperation in the development of environmental technologies, waste management, biodiversity conservation, remediation of contaminated areas, prevention of industrial pollution, etc.’, Svitlana Grynchuk wrote on her Facebook page.
Azerbaijan is also Ukraine’s partner in countering armed aggression. Ukraine has received assistance from Azerbaijan in humanitarian demining. This topic will be relevant for our countries for many years to come, so we are joining forces in this area.
Baku is actively helping Ukrainian children in the process of rehabilitation after the war experience. More than 200 Ukrainian children have already visited Azerbaijan to receive social and psychological assistance. It is planned that another 60 Ukrainian children will be able to undergo a holiday course in Azerbaijan in the near future. The theme of this COP is youth participation in climate initiatives. Initiatives for young people are very important for Ukraine during the war.
‘I would like to thank my counterpart Mukhtar Babayev for a productive dialogue and his team for their help in preparing for COP29. I hope that this is our joint start of large and important projects of global importance,’ said Svitlana Grynchuk.
