Svitlana Grynchuk, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, discussed with Keichiro Asao, Minister of the Environment of Japan, current areas of cooperation in the environmental sphere
In particular, they discussed the management of demolition waste, green technologies, the impact of hostilities on the environment and the implementation of Paragraph 8 of Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula.
We also discussed the implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation within the JCM, signed in February this year between our ministries. We agreed to speed up its implementation and agree on potential areas for specific projects within the JCM. Mr. Keiichiro Asao assured us that Japan supports our environmental ambitions and will continue to take practical steps despite the war. Currently, the procedure for establishing the JCM Joint Committee is being finalised and preparations for training events for Ukrainian government officials and technical specialists have been launched.
‘Ukraine appreciates Japan’s expertise in implementing green innovations and is ready to deepen cooperation in all these areas. We have many opportunities in various fields, because climate is an area that affects all sectors of the economy and especially requires modern technologies. JICA – Japan International Cooperation Agency – helps us with this,’ said Svitlana Grynchuk.
The Minister thanked Kaiichiro Asao for Japan’s fundamental support during the war.
