Green and resilient funding: challenges and opportunities for municipalities
The Ukrainian National Pavilion hosted an event on ‘Green and Sustainable Finance: Challenges and Opportunities for Municipalities’ on the sidelines of the COP29 conference. The event focused on the main threats to municipalities and ways to improve local capacity for climate change adaptation.
Participants of the event:

– Olena Kryvoruchkina, MP, Deputy Head of the Eco Committee.
– Maria Malaya, First Deputy Head of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine.
– Oksana Kysil, national expert of the European Covenant of Mayors initiative in Ukraine
– Viktor Gordynskyi, Deputy Mayor of Zaporizhzhia on the activities of the executive bodies of the council.
– Oleg Serniak, Mayor of Pustomyty.
– Oleksandr Reshetnyk, Head of Municipalities and Utilities Department at JSC Ukreximbank.
They discussed the roadmap for improving investment, their needs in the context of EU integration, shared their plans and ideas, and their vision of how long-term investment can contribute to building sustainable communities.
The head of the Pustomyty community in Lviv Oblast named five areas where his community is moving to address the challenges.
‘We have identified five main areas for ourselves: involving business in community projects, participating in all grant competitions for funding, seeking loans and constant cooperation with banks, teaming up with proactive individuals, and applying successful international experience in the community,’ said Oleh Serniak, Mayor of Pustomyta.
