The Ukrainian pavilion at COP29 hosted a pre-premiere screening of selected short stories from the film anthology War Through the Eyes of Animals.
The Ukrainian pavilion at COP29, which annually brings together thousands of representatives of governments, businesses and NGOs from around the world, hosted an exclusive screening of episodes of the film almanac War Through the Eyes of Animals.
The audience saw the world through the eyes of those who cannot talk about their suffering but feel the war as acutely as humans do.
Tetyana Sakharuk, Director General of the UN Global Compact in Ukraine, shared her impressions:
‘It was more important than ever to screen this film internationally. We saw how it makes us think, sympathise and feel this war personally. This is not just a film – it is the voice of those who are speechless. Such stories help to reach the hearts and influence people’s decisions and attitudes.’
The film almanack was created by Ukrainian and international artists and consisted of seven short stories based on real events. Among the characters are animals that experience the horrors of war. The author of the idea is Oleh Kokhan (SOTA Cinema Group), and the project partners are USAID, the European Solidarity Fund For Ukrainian Films (ESFUF) and the social initiative Save Pets of Ukraine.
Oleg Kokhan noted: ‘All the stories in the film almanack are based on real events of the war in Ukraine. They should be seen and felt by the whole world, because any facts can be told in such a way that they not only impress, but touch the heart. Without victory in the minds and hearts of world leaders and ordinary citizens, our Victory will not be complete.’
This screening was a powerful appeal to the international community: the war in Ukraine is not only a tragedy for people, but also a disaster for nature.
