Ukraine took part in the second meeting of the Climate Club Members’ Body in New York: discussing decarbonisation strategies and international cooperation
The second meeting of the Climate Club’s Members’ Body took place in New York. Representatives of 38 countries, including Ukraine, attended the meeting. The main topic was discussing further steps to achieve climate goals, including industrial decarbonisation and international cooperation.
Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Viktoriia Kireeva, together with Svitlana Sushko, Head of the Recovery and Reform Support Team (RST) at the Ministry, presented Ukraine’s position on accelerating the decarbonisation of industrial sectors and attracting international technical and financial support for developing countries.
‘Decarbonisation of industry is a challenge but also an opportunity for Ukraine to modernise its economy and ensure a sustainable future. Despite the war, Ukraine is determined to continue its decarbonisation path, relying on international cooperation and the use of advanced technologies. Therefore, by partnering with international organisations, we can implement innovations faster and reduce our impact on the climate,’ said Viktoriia Kireeva.
During the meeting, the third strategic dialogue was held on the risks of carbon leakage and its impact on international climate policy. In addition, the participants discussed in detail the updated studies of the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), identifying opportunities for accelerating decarbonisation.
Particular attention was paid to the work of the Global Matchmaking Platform, which aims to help developing countries implement low-carbon technologies through international support.
A key aspect of the discussion was the Climate Club’s Work Programme for 2025-2026, which covers financial plans and key areas of work for the next two years.
