The UN Climate Change Conference COP30 has opened

The UN Climate Change Conference COP30 has begun in Belém, Brazil.

Key topics include climate finance, the gradual phase-out of fossil fuels and the development of renewable energy, the protection of forests and biodiversity, and more.

Around 50,000 people are expected to attend the conference. These include representatives of the 198 parties to the UNFCCC, who agreed in 1992 to take joint action to protect the climate, as well as scientists and experts, representatives of civil society and business, negotiators and journalists.

For Ukraine, participation in the conference is an opportunity to keep the world’s attention focused on Russia’s full-scale aggression and its consequences for the climate and the environment. The damage caused by the Russian war to the Ukrainian environment is estimated at almost 6 trillion hryvnia. In particular, more than 3 million hectares of Ukrainian forests have been damaged or destroyed as a result of the hostilities.

The environmental damage caused by the war is reflected on the walls of the national pavilion, which Ukraine is unveiling at the conference for the fourth time in a row. Its opening is scheduled for Tuesday, 11 November at 15:30 local time.

Ukraine has come to COP30 with an updated NDC and evidence that, even in the face of full-scale Russian aggression, it remains a reliable partner in global climate efforts and continues its irreversible movement towards the EU, carrying out important transformations.

In addition, since 2014, Russia has been trying to include greenhouse gas emissions from the occupied Ukrainian territories in its reporting. Ukraine has blocked and will continue to block the consideration of such documents.

The Ukrainian pavilion at COP30 has been set up through the efforts of the Ukrainian government and partners:
