- Initiative on GHG accounting of war
The full-scale war in Ukraine is destructive for the climate system. This side event will present the climate impacts of Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine, analyzing three years of conflict-induced greenhouse gas emissions.
The discussion will focus on assessing climate damage, possibilities for accountability and compensation for the damage caused to the climate. The event will identify fair pathways for using the compensation — particularly for a green reconstruction, replanting forests and adaptation to climate change. The event aims to stimulate a dialogue on what constitutes fair and equitable compensation for climate-related damage caused by armed conflicts.
